Iranian media outlets reported that Ahmad Vahidi will assume the position of the new commander of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), following the announcement of the death of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei. This appointment coincides with the start of official arrangements for the transitional period in the country.
The Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council, Ali Larijani, announced that the transitional period of power would officially begin on Sunday, noting that this step comes after the confirmation of the Supreme Leader's death in US-Israeli strikes. Larijani outlined the procedural steps that the authorities would take to ensure the continued administration of state affairs.
Larijani revealed a decision to form a temporary leadership council in the near future to assume sovereign responsibilities. He emphasized that this council would be fully responsible for leading and managing the country until the election of a new leader is completed, in accordance with the constitutional procedures applicable in such circumstances.
Regarding the structure of the interim council, the Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council explained that its composition would include top state officials. The council would consist of the President of the Republic, the Head of the Judiciary, and a legal expert from the Guardian Council, to ensure coordination among the various branches of government during this period.
Larijani stressed in his remarks the need to expedite these steps, confirming that work is underway to form the council starting today, so that it can be activated as soon as possible to fill the leadership vacancy and oversee the current phase.
