Behind the scenes of the coronation moment and the truth about the confusion
In an exclusive statement to Al-Youm, Al-Nimr put an end to the speculation surrounding the moment his name was announced, with some suggesting he appeared confused or unsure of how to react. Al-Nimr categorically denied these claims, explaining that the opposite was true.
Al-Nimr revealed that the confusion stemmed from the two presenters of the award, who misread the text several times and failed to extend the customary invitation for him to come up to the stage, as protocol dictates at such international events. He added, "I was waiting for the signal to come up, and when it was delayed, I took the initiative to salvage the situation and went up to receive the award," emphasizing that his self-confidence was strongly present during that exceptional moment.
A remarkable artistic career and a well-deserved crowning achievement
Abdulmohsen Al-Nimr's winning of this prestigious award is the culmination of a decades-long artistic career during which he contributed to shaping the landscape of Saudi and Gulf drama. Al-Nimr belongs to the generation that witnessed the transformations of the artistic scene, delivering complex roles that ranged from tragedy and comedy to historical works, making him a formidable figure in the Arab artistic landscape.
Despite having been previously honored at numerous international and regional events, such as the Sharjah Film Festival, the Gulf Film Festival in Amman, and the “Atnapishtim” International Festival in Baghdad, Al-Nimr emphasized that the “Joy Award” has a different and unique flavor, as it originates from the homeland and is located in the heart of the capital, Riyadh.
Joy Awards: A cultural beacon that aligns with Vision 2030
Al-Nimr emphasized that the true value of the award stems not only from its being a personal honor, but also from its reflection of the tremendous cultural and artistic transformation the Kingdom is witnessing under the umbrella of Saudi Vision 2030. He pointed out that the vision of His Royal Highness the Crown Prince – may God protect him – aims to make Saudi citizens a beacon for the world in art, thought, and culture, a vision embodied by this award, which has become a focal point for international stars.
Al-Nimr stressed that comparing the Joy Award to prestigious international awards such as the Oscars and the Golden Globes may be unfair in terms of age, but the Saudi award has managed in record time to impose its artistic weight and international influence, thanks to the tremendous efforts led by Advisor Turki Al-Sheikh and all those in charge of the entertainment sector.
Future projects and a new experience
Regarding his upcoming projects, Al-Nimr explained that he is currently filming his scenes in the series “Al-Marsa”, describing the work as an artistic precedent and an innovative experience that those in charge of it seek to reflect the reactions of viewers and apply them interactively within the work, which is considered a qualitative leap in the local drama industry.
