Abdul Latif Jameel Motors is expected to sign a memorandum of understanding with UDF and Octopian to launch clean hydrogen generators in the Kingdom, in support of the goals of Vision 2030 and carbon neutrality.

Strategic partnership to support the future of clean energy in the Kingdom

In a strategic move aimed at accelerating the transition to clean energy, Abdul Latif Jameel Motors, the authorized distributor of Toyota vehicles in Saudi Arabia since 1955, announced the signing of a tripartite memorandum of understanding. This memorandum brings together Abdul Latif Jameel Motors, EODev (a leading French company specializing in clean energy generation solutions), and Octopian (a UAE-based company specializing in innovative technological solutions). This alliance aims to promote and expand the use of green hydrogen generator solutions in the Saudi market, representing a significant boost to the Kingdom's sustainable energy efforts.

General context: In line with Saudi Vision 2030

This announcement comes at a crucial time as Saudi Arabia steadily progresses toward achieving the goals of Vision 2030, which prioritizes economic diversification and environmental sustainability. The Kingdom aims to become a global hub for the production and export of clean hydrogen, leveraging its natural resources and strategic geographic location. Initiatives such as “Green Saudi Arabia” demonstrate the Kingdom’s commitment to achieving carbon neutrality by 2060. This partnership is therefore significant, as it directly contributes to building a robust infrastructure for the hydrogen economy and provides practical solutions for reducing carbon emissions across multiple vital sectors.

Details of the collaboration and its objectives

Under the memorandum of understanding, the three parties will collaborate to launch innovative hydrogen generators from UDF in the Saudi market. A key component is the stationary GEH2 generator, which utilizes advanced hydrogen fuel cell technology from Toyota, a long-standing partner of Abdul Latif Jameel. These generators provide a reliable and completely emission-free power source, making them an ideal alternative to conventional diesel generators in sectors such as construction, events, industrial sites, and remote areas. Mazen Ghazi Jameel, Executive General Manager of Marketing Operations at Abdul Latif Jameel Motors, affirmed, “This collaboration reflects our commitment to supporting the Kingdom’s efforts towards carbon neutrality and expanding the range of hydrogen solutions to encompass various commercial and industrial applications.”

Importance and expected impact

Domestically, this project is expected to accelerate the adoption of hydrogen technologies, create new job opportunities in the renewable energy sector, and enhance energy security. Regionally and internationally, this partnership strengthens the Kingdom's position as a key player in the emerging global energy market. Stéphane Jardin, Executive Vice President at UDF, expressed his pride in collaborating to support the Kingdom's ambition to become a leader in clean energy. Dr. Tarek Jabara, CEO of Actopian, stated that this collaboration represents a significant step in supporting the transition to smart and sustainable energy systems, emphasizing that the company will leverage its expertise to accelerate the adoption of these technologies. The memorandum also paves the way for promising future opportunities, including local production, which supports technology localization and the development of an integrated hydrogen generator ecosystem within the Kingdom, underscoring the shared vision for a more sustainable future.
