The Saudi Water Authority has called on owners and operators of all types of water filling stations (potable and non-potable) across the Kingdom to expedite compliance with licensing requirements before the mandatory deadline of March 31, 2026. The Authority explained that these requirements were previously announced as part of its efforts to regulate the water sector and enhance the safety and quality of services provided to consumers, emphasizing the importance of prompt compliance within the remaining period. Technical standards

She explained that the requirements aim to ensure that water filling stations operate according to technical and operational standards that enhance the safety of operations and the efficiency of service, and contribute to providing an organized and safe operating environment within the stations.

She pointed out that the requirements include a number of basic requirements, most notably the design of the station to ensure the existence of a separate entrance and exit to regulate the movement of tankers, reduce congestion and enhance operational safety, in addition to regulating the movement of vehicles within the site and the safe disposal of waste resulting from operation.

Suitable specifications

The requirements also included preparing the station floors with suitable specifications that can withstand the heavy weights of the tanks, with the provision of suitable slopes for water drainage and clear regulating lines for vehicle movement, which contributes to reducing accidents and maintaining the safety of workers and vehicles within the site.

On the operational side, the authority explained the need to provide an appropriate production capacity, divide water sources among multiple reservoirs, and use automated gauges to monitor water levels, in order to ensure the continuity of service without interruption and enhance the station’s readiness to meet demand.

Regular maintenance

Regarding water safety, the authority stressed the importance of providing tightly insulated water tanks that are subject to regular cleaning and maintenance, with the selection of suitable locations far from sources of pollution, to ensure the preservation of water quality and safety.

The Saudi Water Authority stressed the need for station owners and operators to complete the licensing requirements before the deadline, calling for them to take advantage of the remaining period to rectify the situation and comply with the regulatory requirements.

The authority noted that non-compliance with these requirements exposes practitioners of the activity to violations and penalties in accordance with the water system, as part of its supervisory role to regulate the sector and raise the level of compliance and quality of services provided.
