The courtyards and halls of the Prophet's Mosque witnessed a massive influx of worshippers performing the Isha and Taraweeh prayers, observing the virtues of the 27th night of Ramadan in the Prophet's Mosque , seeking the blessed Night of Power (Laylat al-Qadr) in the last ten nights. A profound and awe-inspiring atmosphere of faith, tranquility, reverence, and peace pervaded the place, as the courtyards filled early with worshippers from within the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and abroad, who flocked to perform their prayers in the precincts of the Prophet's Mosque (peace and blessings be upon him) with hearts filled with serenity.
The significance and history of Laylat al-Qadr (the Night of Decree) in the Holy Sanctuary
The final days of Ramadan hold immense significance for Muslims, particularly the 27th night, which many scholars believe to be Laylat al-Qadr (the Night of Decree), the night on which the Quran was revealed and which is better than a thousand months. Historically, since the time of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), the Prophet's Mosque in Medina has been the primary gathering place for Muslims during these blessed nights for prayer and spiritual retreat. Rewards are multiplied in this sacred place, as a single prayer there is equivalent to a thousand prayers elsewhere, except for the Grand Mosque in Mecca. This makes the influx of Muslims to the mosque on this night a deeply rooted tradition of faith, connecting the present with the rich history of the Muslim community and deepening their spirituality and connection with the Creator of the universe.
Imams of the 27th night of Ramadan at the Prophet's Mosque
During the observance of the 27th night of Ramadan at the Prophet's Mosque , Sheikh Dr. Hussein Al-Sheikh led the worshippers in the Isha prayer. Following this, the imams of the mosque took turns leading the Taraweeh prayers. Sheikh Dr. Abdullah Al-Qarafi led the first two sets of prayers, while Sheikh Dr. Muhammad Barhaji led the final two sets, amidst heartfelt supplications and prayers to God Almighty to accept the fasting and prayers and to spread peace and security throughout the world.
The impact of the million-person gathering and its Islamic and international dimensions
The impact of this massive religious gathering extends far beyond the spiritual realm, encompassing profound local and international dimensions. Locally, this influx of millions reflects the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's success in efficiently and effectively managing such large crowds, reinforcing its leading position as the custodian of the Two Holy Mosques and the Qibla for Muslims. Regionally and internationally, the sight of hundreds of thousands of worshippers from diverse nationalities and ethnicities standing shoulder to shoulder embodies the highest ideals of unity and solidarity among the peoples of the Islamic world, sending a message of peace and reassurance to the entire world and affirming the universality of the Islamic message and its power to unite hearts.
Exceptional efforts and utmost care for the guests of God
To ensure the comfort of this massive influx of visitors, the General Authority for the Care of the Two Holy Mosques, in full coordination with various security and service agencies, has ensured that the mosque is prepared to its full capacity. Preparations included furnishing the prayer areas with the finest carpets and intensifying cleaning, disinfection, fumigation, and perfuming around the clock. Ample quantities of chilled Zamzam water have also been made available and distributed throughout the mosque's arcades.
In addition, environmental protection services and maintenance of facilities and restrooms were enhanced. Operational plans included organizing pedestrian traffic to ensure a smooth flow of visitors and prevent overcrowding, providing wheelchair services for the elderly and people with disabilities, and activating the latest monitoring and reporting systems, which effectively contributed to maintaining the safety and comfort of visitors to the Prophet's Mosque, enabling them to perform their religious rites with ease.
