Trump's statements

US President Donald Trump announced on Monday that he would postpone targeting power plants and other infrastructure in Iran for five days if Tehran did not open the Strait of Hormuz to shipping.

Later, Trump said that Washington and Tehran had reached “key points of agreement” in negotiations with a senior Iranian official who was not the new Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Khamenei.

While Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf denied any negotiations with the United States, the Iranian Foreign Ministry announced that it had received “messages from friendly countries” regarding an American request to hold talks.
