Cesena explained that the former left-back, who played for Arsenal and Chelsea and has 107 international caps for the "Three Lions", signed until the end of the season "with an option to extend, subject to certain conditions being met.".
The club statement read, “The entire Cesena family is delighted to welcome Ashley Cole as first-team coach and wishes him and his coaching staff every success in this adventure.”.
Cole, who won three Premier League titles with Arsenal and Chelsea as well as the Champions League in 2012, had served as assistant coach at Everton and Birmingham City, as well as with England's under-21 and senior national teams.
The 45-year-old Englishman joins Cesena (eighth in the standings with 40 points) following the dismissal of Michele Mignoni, which was announced on Saturday, after a run of seven games without a win that threatens the club's participation in the promotion playoffs to Serie A.
The club, owned by American businessman Mike Milby, occupies the last qualifying spot for the playoffs, with only a two-point lead over ninth-placed Södertrol, with eight rounds remaining in the regular season.
