Colombian striker John Duran, who plays for Fenerbahce in Turkey and is on loan from Al-Nasr in Saudi Arabia, has returned to the center of controversy once again, but this time not because of his goal-scoring record, but because of his emotional behavior that has continued to haunt him since his beginnings in European stadiums.
The past few days have witnessed an escalation within the corridors of the Turkish club, after the Fenerbahce management, headed by Sadettin Saran, issued an official and clear warning to the player about the need to control his temper and adhere to the rules of discipline within the team, following an incident that was described as “unacceptable” in terms of behavior.
The crisis stems from Fenerbahçe's recent match against Konyaspor in the Turkish Super League, where coach Domenico Tedesco decided to substitute Duran during the second half as part of a tactical move to achieve greater balance on the field. However, the player reacted negatively, openly protesting the decision and refusing to shake his coach's hand as he left the pitch, a scene captured by cameras that angered the coaching staff and management.
The incident prompted the club president to intervene personally to contain the situation. Saran sent a direct message to the player, confirming that Fenerbahce appreciates his great talent, but stressed that continuing these behaviors could harm his future and the harmony of the group, noting that commitment and discipline are no less important than technical abilities.
The club's management expressed double disappointment, especially in light of the great support that Fenerbahce had provided to the player during the past months, as the club president had previously undertaken to cover the costs of Duran's family's trip to Istanbul in November 2025, in an attempt to provide psychological stability and emotional support, a step that was reflected positively on his level at the beginning, after he became an influential element in several matches.
However, the Konyaspor incident has revived concerns about the player's ability to control his impulsiveness, opening the door to speculation about his future with the team, even though his loan contract extends until June 2026.
Media reports have circulated that the option of ending the loan early and returning to Al-Nasr of Saudi Arabia is now on the table, given that clubs from the English Premier League and Paris Saint-Germain are monitoring the player's situation, but his reputation as a difficult player may negatively affect the interest of these clubs.
Currently, the message coming from Istanbul seems clear: either John Duran adheres to the rules of discipline and respect within Fenerbahce, or his experience in the Turkish league will end prematurely.
It is worth mentioning that Duran played 18 matches with Al-Nasr Saudi in various competitions, during which he succeeded in scoring 12 goals, confirming his great attacking talent, which remains dependent on his ability to control his emotions on and off the field.
